The band have recorded little in the 21st century, with just a single studio album (2003’s Say You Will) and an EP without Christine McVie, while McVie and Buckingham released a duo album in 2017. While Stevie Nicks was the identifiable star in Fleetwood Mac, concurrently enjoying a successful solo career from 1981, Lindsey Buckingham’s studio expertise is the band’s key. Buckingham insisted that his girlfriend Stevie Nicks was also included, forming Fleetwood Mac’s most successful lineup. The band peaked commercially with 1977’s mega-selling Rumours, with emotional turmoil around the group fuelling great songs. He invited Lindsey Buckingham to join the band as guitarist.
The band launched on a trajectory to stardom in 1974 when Fleetwood was played an unsuccessful album from the duo Buckingham Nicks while investigating a potential recording studio. The band’s fortunes were varied during this era, with successful records like Bare Trees and failures like Heroes are Hard to Find. John McVie’s wife Christine joined on vocals and keyboards in 1970.

And it turned out really well, but they didn’t end up using it. So that’s why the lyrics are sort of muddled up with a little bit of a love song, a little bit of cycling. “I was asked to write a song for a film about a cycling competition,” McVie said in a statement. “Slowdown,” available to hear below, was originally written for the 1985 film American Flyers. The keyboardist recorded the unheard “All You Gotta Do,” a duet with George Hawkins, while recording In the Meantime John finished off the track by adding parts from Ricky Peterson (Hammond organ) and Ethan Johns (drums, guitar). The package, newly remastered by famed producer Glyn Johns, features material from two of her solo LPs (1984’s Christine McVie and 2004’s In the Meantime), along with two previously unreleased tracks and a new orchestral rendition of her Rumoursballad “Songbird.” Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie will release her first-ever solo compilation, Songbird, on June 24.
